Sure, Austin may be “weird.” It may be the capital of cool for the college-aged. But don’t overlook the fact that Austin and its surroundings offer some of the finest master-planned communities for families and those looking to live a little better than the dorm life at UT.

Crystal Falls

In 2014, two Austin communities earned spots on the prestigious John Burns Real Estate Consulting list as the best-selling master-planned communities in America. One is Crystal Falls, a 5,000-acre slice of Hill Country bliss that touts itself as “the last untouched landscape of true Hill Country living in Austin's booming northwest corridor.”  Crystal falls also was named Austin’s top master-planned community of the year, and it’s easy to see why ‒‒ 2,000-pound, hand-carved limestone street signs harvested from Austin’s Whitestone quarry; cedar stockade fences; and a piece of home set high atop a ridge in Grand Mesa. If you’re looking to sleep under a million stars and still be home, this may be your dream location.

Teravista

The second Austin-area property on the John Burns list for 2014 is Teravista, located in north Austin, in the rolling hills between the cities of Georgetown and Round Rock. In addition to nearby education and medical centers, shopping, and entertainment, Teravista is known for its sumptuous golf course, the Teravista Golf Club. The club features a 7,200-yard championship course named as one of the seven best public courses in Texas and one of the top beginner-friendly courses as well. And you’ll never get lost ‒‒ there’s GPS on every cart.

 Belterra

“Live Wide Open” in Belterra, one of Austin’s top master-planned communities, located between downtown Austin and Dripping Springs. Belterra features 11 neighborhoods (four of which are already sold out) on 1,600 acres of gorgeous Hill Country. Though just minutes from downtown Austin, Belterra feels worlds apart ‒‒ an oasis combining the  convenience of urban living and resort-style amenities with the beauty of central Texas right outside your windows.

Preserve at Mayfield Ranch

Twenty minutes outside of downtown Austin lies the highly coveted Round Rock Mayfield neighborhood. And at center stage in this community lies the Preserve at Mayfield Ranch, a new gated, master-planned community that combines urban lifestyle with modern home designs, The Preserve at Mayfield Ranch is actually (and literally) situated at the crossroads of three of the fastest growing cities in central Texas: Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Georgetown. All within a short drive to the bustling capital city and its hip appeal.

Sweetwater

Sweetwater features rolling ridges and deep canyons; live oaks and ancient madrone trees; aimless nature trails and pristine athletic fields. Sweetwater, just south of Lake Travis and near Bee Cave and Lakeway, offers the requisite master-planned amenities like a swimming pool and playgrounds, and, since it’s Austin, the requisite breathtaking views of the Texas Hill Country.
