S.N. Adams developed Oak Estates alongside Highland Village neighborhood and the shopping center in the 1940s. The area was previously a private sports club. The neighborhood comprises of roughly 140 single-family homes. Some of the homes for sale in the neighborhood date back to the 1950s. Many homeowners are remodeling the 1950s and 1960s homes, replacing them with new larger bungalows or two-story houses. Newer homes are also available. These residences feature 2 to 5 bedrooms and offer 1,700 to over 5,500 square feet of living space. Lot sizes range from 9,000 to over 20,000 square feet. Home prices range from the high-six-figure range to over $1million. In comparison to Afton Oaks and Royden Oaks, homes in Oak Estates are more expensive. The homes in next door River Oaks are pricier.

Oak Estates residents have easy commutes to Downtown Houston, the Texas Medical Center, and Greenway Plaza/Upper Kirby via Westheimer Road and San Felipe Street. Loop 610 is only a few blocks away while downtown is 6 miles away. The neighborhood's location is in the area between River Oaks and the Galleria. The Galleria is a major employment and retail center. The district features over 2,000 companies with over 50,000 employees. Several retail hotspots nearby include high-end shopping centers such as River Oaks District and Highland Village.

Oak Estates Homeowners Association

Along with these great amenities, residents boast an established HOA. The association’s main aim is to maintain common areas, promote certain aesthetic standards and enforce deed restrictions. The HOA became a mandatory property owners association in 1999.

A diverse selection of educational institutions serves the neighborhood. They include River Oaks Elementary School, fellow IB World Schools Lanier Middle School, and Lamar High School.
