Second Ward
As one of the four original wards of Houston in the 19th century, Second Ward has strong historical ties. Historical, industrial structures add a unique flair and eccentric character to the area. Some of these buildings have been converted into stylish lofts and condos, making it possible for residents to take full advantage of the historic character of Second Ward. Many buildings in the area were constructed in the 1920's and follow the art deco architectural style. Second Ward is currently in a state of renewal and renovation. It's location and proximity to downtown is drawing more and more new residents. It is an area of opportunity and new possibilities!
School-aged children who live in Second Ward are zoned to the Houston Independent School District. Students attend Rusk for K-6, Jackson Middle School and Wheatley High School. Other schooling options include Our Lady of Guadalupe School, which is a K-8 Roman Catholic school that is part of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
