Austin is more than the capital of Texas, it’s the capital of the Texas craft beer world, which is (and we’re not just being biased here) cranking out some of the absolute best small-batch beers in the history of American beverages. And, Austin may be the best place in Texas to go for a pint, whether it’s brewed here or not. Here are some of the best places for a great beer in Austin, no matter what your taste.
1. Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden
On Rainey Street is the perpetually sunny amber glow of more than 100 on-tap beers, surrounded by roomy seating and some kind of entertainment on an almost-daily basis. You can’t not find a brew you like here, and if you’re into delicious cured meats, try their handmade game sausages. Oh yes.
2. The Chicago House
Talk about eclectic geography. Chicago House replicates New York’s Pony Bar, but in Downtown Austin. The beer? Pretty much from everywhere. There are 20 taps and two always-rotating casks of fine craft beer. And no beer is more than $5. Except at happy hour. When no beer is more than $4.
3. Easy Tiger
Like you some vintage bars? How about one that looks like an illegal Prohibition-era speakeasy? Easy Tiger put you in just the right mood for a pint. Walk in, go downstairs, and select from more than 30 taps. Try a house-made pretzel while you’re quaffing that nosh.
4. Brew Exchange
OK, you want a little adventure with your beer? At Beer Exchange, the price for a glass of beer fluctuates depending on its popularity that evening. It’s surprisingly a lot more fun than it sounds, and you can always feel you’re doing your part for the economy. Or something.
