Lake Highlands Homes for Sale

The original part of Lake Highlands was built in the 1950s in the so-called L Streets. From there, development moved west creating a sprawling neighborhood that creeps slightly north of LBJ/I-635. Lake Highlands is so named because of its proximity to White Rock Lake. Construction of homes for sale in the area dates back to the 1960s. These older homes still have that 1960's cottage feel with smaller floor plans and two to three bedrooms. Homes for sale in the western part of the neighborhood tend to be newer and are more traditional ranch-style. Development of these homes dates back to between the 1970s and 1980s. If you're looking for an area in Dallas which has a small-town vibe, Lake Highlands might be your ideal neighborhood.

Lake Highlands Community Highlights

The Lake Highlands topography of rolling hills - a rarity in the flat North Texas prairie - is one aspect that makes this neighborhood unique. Residents enjoy a gorgeous shade canopy from the massive pecan and live oak trees. The western part of this neighborhood offers easy access to the White Rock Creek trail system. The trail winds through several parks and connects to the trail around White Rock Lake. It's the perfect spot to get the heart racing for cyclists, joggers, and rollerbladers.

You can also sail a boat within city limits at White Rock Lake. Located near the lake is the 66-acre Dallas Arboretum. The scenic garden features 2,400 varieties of plants and offers marvelous views and a rock garden concert pavilion. Fountain Place is another top attraction. The fountain encircles a green-glass tower designed by I.M. Pei and Partners. The fountain features stair-stepped walkways, tired pools with waterfalls, a battalion of cypress trees and 172 bubbling fountains. 360 computer-generated programmed high-pressure geysers spurt from holes in the concrete.

History buffs can brush up on local history by browsing the galleries at Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Dallas Art Museum and the Nasher Sculpture Center. The Sculpture Center features an outdoor garden with oversized sculptures and hosts movie nights on the lawn. Pioneer Plaza at the Dallas Convention Center features a life-size bronze sculpture of a cattle drive, complete with 3 cowboys and 70 head of cattle.

Lake Highlands Schools

The Richardson ISD serves the residents of Lake Highlands. The newer Lake Highlands homes feed to a few elementary schools and Forest Meadow Junior High. Students may complete their public education at Lake Highlands High School. More like a small town, many activities focus around the High School as they would in a small, Texas town.  Most Friday nights in the fall will find a majority of residents at Wildcat Stadium cheering on the Wildcat football team. During the high school football season, visitors and locals alike flock to Javier's Gourmet Mexicano for great, traditional south of the Border Fare.
