You might have heard by now that San Antonio is the fastest-growing tech hub in Texas. As more tech startups and emerging companies look to do business with the military bases and the ever-evolving South Texas Medical Center, and as the city ramps up its efforts to revitalize and expand its reborn downtown, more young, tech-savvy professionals are looking to adopt the lifestyle San Antonio has to offer.

Which, of course, begs the question, where do young professionals want to live? Here are some of the most sought-after areas in San Antonio :

Downtown

Young professionals these days embrace urban living in a way their predecessors never did. And San Antonio’s growing downtown, complete with revitalized urban buildings and a coming city rail project, is attracting young professionals who are looking to tap into the amenities a thriving city center has to offer. Downtown San Antonio offers some of the best nightlife for young professionals, from hip bars to trendy restaurants. It also offers excellent urban recreation. Most of the downtown is walkable or bike-friendly and features tons of shops, cafés, galleries, and cultural hubs. Some of the top neighborhoods, according to the San Antonio Express-News are City Center, King William, Southtown, and Lavaca.

North of Downtown

Just outside the core of downtown, where the Alamo and Riverwalk are, is this revitalized ‒‒ and growing ‒‒ former industrial area that is more active today than it’s been for decades. This is the area of the city that features the renovated Pearl Brewery site, which is bursting with shops and restaurants, boutiques and bars. The eclectic area is close to San Antonio College and its proximity to downtown and access to highways is a major draw for young professionals. According to the Express-News, the best neighborhoods here are Monte Vista, Beacon Hill, Tobin Hill, and Alta Vista.

Alamo Heights

Alamo Heights, a centrally located, tight-knit community, is popular among young professionals for its winding streets and its eclectic mix of old-school charm and new luxury. A world within itself, Alamo Heights combines urban living, upscale shops, large chains, and just the right mix of activity.  It is frequently cited as one of the best areas of San Antonio to live, regardless of whether you’re a young professional or not. The heart of Alamo Heights is Broadway Street, which features two of the city’s premier condo buildings, the Broadway and Carlyle Condominiums.

Stone Oak

Stone oak’s mix of services and amenities makes it a top place for young professionals to settle, according to the Express-News. The neighborhood is rich in high-end residential properties and boasts many shopping areas and business parks, including the Village at Stone Oak, Rolling Oaks Mall, The Shops at La Cantera, and The Rim.
